Dolores Sang Farewell
An angel’s lilting voice,
Drifted down from Heaven.
Finding its home,
In Ballybricken.
While the world went on turning,
The Lord stopped to listen.
And smiled,
Contented.
Pure with her verse,
Poetry in her play.
Beyond the lights,
Fissures found their way.
Deep eyes, semi-smile,
Oh-so-forlorn.
Didn’t know what we had,
'til she was gone.
Fractured, broken,
(Shattered in pieces)
Heard her cry out,
(Oh, hold off the darkness)
Burdened, defeated,
(Fearing the reason)
Heard her whisper,
(Need to find my religion)
Creeping deep shadows,
Cross the River Shannon.
The banks were deserted,
For a return to Heaven,
The January chill,
And twelve tolling bells,
A nightingale flew away,
As Dolores sang farewell.
A nightingale flew away...
(Flew high)
As Dolores sang farewell...
(Farewell)
