The Day Ends Darkly

[Verse 1]
Hunting a shadow,
Tapering long and thin.
Black trench fluttering,
Like demon wings.

In the fiery heat,
Sweat wets my brow,
Coal eyes give away,
Neither why nor how.

[Chorus 1] (Quiet)
The day ends darkly, for each of us at some time.
Especially when you're on, the wrong side of the line.
The day ends darkly, for some not all.
A few go on riding, the rest they take the fall.

[Bridge]
Smooth steel rests,
Under my steady fingers.
Two decades on,

One rage still lingers.
You will suffer, by my hands!

[Verse 2]

Got no fear of dyin',
I shout at the devil.
Six feet down,
We're all on the level.

Don't rest 'til it's over now,
Prophet once told,
You're on divine mission,
Live long, Son, grow old.

[Pre-Chorus]
Take you to a place where,
Christ hides in the shadows.
No rest for the hunted,
Welcome to the gallows.

Shots crack the silence,
The shadow speaks softly.
A cough, a final breath,
Still no one cries for me.

[Chorus 2] (Loud)
The day ends darkly, after the setting sun's glow,
There could be no tomorrow, a sandstorm sweeps along the plains so low

[Verse 3]
Horseman chasin' me 'til,
One day I'm years older.
A familiar companion,
Sittin' on my shoulder.

Shots crack the silence,
The shadow speaks softly.
A cough, a final breath,
But Still no one cries for me.

[Chorus 3] (Loud)
The day ends darkly, after the setting sun's glow,
I've no fear for tomorrow, a sandstorm sweeps along the plains so low
The day ends darkly, For some Not all.              (The day ends darkly, The day ends darkly)
A few go on riding the rest they take a fall.       (The day, The day)
The day ends darkly, For some Not all.              (The day ends darkly, The day ends darkly)
A few go on riding the rest they take a fall.       (The day, the day)

[Bridge]
Smooth steel rests,
Under moribund fingers.
Two decades on,
One rage still lingered.

It's a fine day to die,
By my hand or yours.
It's a fine time to die,
By my gun or yours.
