Music Recommendations

Apparently, I've been a little late to the Archer bandwagon. Well, actually, very late. Archer was first broadcast in 2009; I began watching the show a month and a half ago. Now I watch it like a mental patient. On FX. On FXX. On Netflix. On my DVR. Over and Over. Can't get enough of it. Geez, I even find myself sometimes, alone, doing a really silly impression of Jon H. Benjamin's Archer saying, "Danja Zone!"

So what does this have to do with music recommendations?

One of the characters on Archer--voiced by the supremely talented actress Judy Greer (who, frankly, should be a mega star)--is Cheryl Tunt and her alter-ego 'outlaw country' singer, Cherlene. Cherlene's vocals are actually sung by country artist Jesse Lynn Martens. I love Archer so, therefore, I love Jesse Lynn Martens' singing. I highly recommend "Baby Please Don't Go," my favorite, "40 Miles of Mountain Road," "Swing Shift," "Eastbound and Down," and, of course, "Danger Zone," in a duet with original singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins.

God, I love the internet and, especially, YouTube.

A YouTube commenter on Cherlene's "Baby Please Don't Go" suggested a similar country vocalist, Karen Jonas. At this very time I was putting together a playlist on my iPhone, aptly and obviously named, 'Outlaw Country,' which I wanted to consist of spunky, fast-paced songs from off-the-beaten-track female country singers. Karen Jonas, who has a great voice and plays a mean guitar, fits perfectly. I immediately downloaded "White Trash Romance," "Suicide Sal," "Money," and "I Never Learn.".

In the quest for one more artist to fill my iPhone playlist, I found Jordan Igoe on ReverbNation and Bandcamp. Within a few seconds of listening to "Paper May," I was enthralled. I'm not sure if it's country, alternative, or what. It almost has the feel of Linda Scott's 1961 hit, "I've Told Every Little Star," featured in the bizarre and fantastic movie, Mulholland Drive. "Paper May" is a real gem.

So, there you have it--music recommendations for you to check out!
