Gretchen Menn, lead guitarist for Zepparella and someone who I've mentioned numerous times before in this blog, recently posted a question on the Zepparella Official Fan Facebook Page: "I'm interested... What was the first Led Zeppelin song you ever heard, and what was your impression? Were you immediately drawn in, or did it take a different one to lure you deeper?"
I wanted to post my answer, mostly so I don't forget. So here it is. "Born in 1964 and, slightly embarrassed to admit, I was a little late listening to hard rock. Seemed music like Led Zeppelin was 'subversive' and 'bad for you,' so I spent much of the late 70's listening to soft rock. Then, somehow, I got a hold of Physical Graffiti and heard "The Rover." I was changed forever. My all-time Zeppelin songs are: When The Levee Breaks, The Battle of Evermore, Going To California. Going To California became a kind of battle cry for me when I decided to grad school at Southern California in '91."
And there you have it, to live on in posterity.
